Troop 249 July Newsletter By: Jeffrey Lynch- Scribe
The month of July was great. We all went to Camp Thunder, near Atlanta, for 9 days. On Friday afternoon half of us went to Gainesville and spent the afternoon and evening swimming at my sister’s house. Jimmy and Matt Myers grandfather and grandmother had a bar-b-que for us. We went to bed around 10PM and woke up at 6AM for the ride to camp. We arrived at camp at 2PM and found another troop in our campsite. We finally got in another camp site and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs over the wood fire. We explored the whole camp and had fun. Mr. Leach arrived with more scouts Saturday afternoon. On Sunday the camp opened after lunch. We met our troop guide, Eli. His nickname is Cotton, after Eli Witney. He was the best troop guide. The rest of the troop arrived Sunday afternoon. Monday the merit badges began, and went until Friday. Some of the merit badges that we took were rifle, archery, shotgun, motor boating, COPE, and Eagle required badges. The Scout to First Class program was called Buckskin, and was very good according to the scouts who took it. They will all be First Class real soon. On Wednesday night we went to Stone Mountain. The show was really good. The ride there and back took a long time though. Saturday morning we left for the 10 hour ride home. My car stopped in Gainesville again for lunch. We ran into Mr. Cullen and his scouts at Gator Dockside. We got home around 6PM Saturday. Everybody had a great time, and we are looking forward to next year. |
